Welcome to the Raaz Blog

Managing personal finances can seem difficult and time consuming. Bringing together statements across multiple bank accounts, setting budgets and keeping track of spending require effort and dedication.

We developed the Raaz app to help individuals and households get a full picture of their spending and saving habits. While Raaz users get specific insights and recommendations for products and services that can help them save, we also wanted a place for a more general discussion around money-saving tips and techniques. Alongside the Raaz app, this blog will provide practical tips that can be used to make small improvements every day.

The first practical tip - Make your mobile plan work for you.

When was the last time you reviewed your mobile phone plan? If you’re like most people, you selected a plan a few years ago without really knowing how much data or voice you need. Today, voice minutes are hardly relevant, it’s mostly about data usage. The question is whether the data you actually use matches the allowance on your plan.

We’d like you to do 2 things:

First - look at your last 2 monthly bills to see how much you are using. Is it close to your allowance or is it far lower? If your actual usage is lower, check if your provider has a plan that is cheaper that will cover it. One of our team members was on a 20 rial plan that gave him 40 GB monthly. But when he looked at his bill, he rarely exceeded 10 GB. He could switch to a 10 rial plan that gave him sufficient voice and data allowance. That’s an extra 10 rials a month, or 120 rials a year!

Second - all the major providers have a points system that can be used towards paying down your bills. Check to see how many points you’ve accumulated and see what that translates to in terms of credit. A friend of ours hadn’t used her points for over 2 years and managed to get 50 rial credit towards her bill! That was a nice surprise and she used it to treat herself to a spa treatment.

Take this as a sign to check your phone bill, compare plans and cash in your points!
